Arm and Hammer Baking Soda (With or Without Vinegar)
One of the very best cleaning agents that I recommend for carpet cleaning is
baking soda. You have probably seen this branded orange box sometime in your
life but you may not be aware of its multitude of uses in the household. Baking soda is sometimes known as sodium bicarbonate and it is an environmentally friendly product that has persisted for ages. It is very effective at cleaning and deodorizing your pet stained carpets. It has been a trusted and popular cleaning agent for generations not without justification.
Baking soda is not only inexpensive but also very easy to use as a carpet
cleaning solution. You can just apply it to your carpet and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes (longer with repeated applications if it is an old pet stain). You can then easily brush and vacuum it away, enjoying a cleaner and bacteria free carpet. If required, you can also mix in some vinegar or scented oil to increase its cleaning effectiveness for more stubborn stains and/or odors. Vinegar is acidic (with a pH value of around 2-3) in nature and acts as an excellent disinfectant.
Biokleen Carpet and Rug Shampoo
I always try to recommend products that are made by Biokleen. Biokleen is founded by two family-oriented pet owners who take pride in their clean and green products. The company specializes and excels in natural, non toxic cleaning solutions.
The Biokleen Carpet and Rug Shampoo is an excellent cleaning solution at getting rid of stubborn pet stains to leave your carpet in a refreshed condition. The shampoo is safe to use on almost all types of carpet fibers (nylon, wool, polyester and even the rarer synthetic olefin). The cleaning solution is highly concentrated which makes it even more environmentally friendly and long lasting (you only need to use a tiny cap-full per use).
A common complaint of powerful and concentrated cleaning agents is their tendency to leave behind unwanted residues. This leftover residues can be harmful to pets and children. This is not a problem with this product as the only thing it leaves behind is a fresh scent and softer carpet.
I highly recommend this shampoo cleaner for almost any type of carpet, especially if you are chemically sensitive or have very young children and pets. This cleaning solution is akin to much more expensive commercial grade products, effective and most importantly, it is non-toxic.
Better Life Natural Stain and Odor Eliminator (Plant Based)
Better Life is a company that excels at making green, safe and environmentally friendly cleaning products that are powerful at the same time. This exceptional combination of plant based extracts (Eucalyptus & Lemongrass scented) is effective at removing stains and odors from your carpets. It is definitely safe to use with pets and kids as it is non-toxic.
As it comes with a spray attachment, you can easily spray the solution directly on the affected area and then blot it with a wet towel (do not rub) as per the instructions. It is effective at dealing with tougher stains such as pet urine and hairball residues. This is always my go-to stain remover and odor reducer due to its safety and ease of use.
The subtle but not overpowering scent and non-toxic cleaning action makes this solution one of my top and greenest recommendations for pet stains’ removal. On a side note, their detergent product line is pretty awesome (and equally green) too!
Worthy Mention: Bubbas Super Steamer Carpet Cleaner
If you have a branded carpet shampooer or cleaner machine such as those from Bissell, Hoover, Kärcher etc, it might be worth checking out the Bubbas Super Steamer Carpet Cleaner. My friend has an 14 year old cat who has some urinary issues and is no longer able to hold his bladder well. She swears by this cleaner as she no longer has to call in the carpet cleaning company every so often. For much smaller stains, she will just use an old spray bottle and a brush to clean up the residue instead of lugging out the carpet machine.
